Principle 33 - Unloading a Gun

To unload a gun do the following steps

Assume the gun is loaded

Keep the muzzle pointed away from danger and your finger off the trigger

Put the safety on safe

Remove the magazine

If a tube magazine remove the shells or rounds

Open the action to remove any rounds in the chamber

Visually inspect the chamber to make sure no round is loaded

Lock the slide/action in the open position

Get in the habit of doing this whenever you're given a gun.
