47 Key Principles for Guns

Principle 32 - Clearing a Gun

The process of clearing a gun of bullets is a very important skill to make a gun safe, though never assume the gun is safe.

Safe means there is no ammo in the chamber, or magazine and the action is open.

Note:

If you remove round in chamber first and the magazine in loaded it will eject the round in chamber and load a new round.

Steps
  • Remove the magazine or empty it if attached/fixed
  • Open the action, pull back the charging handle or bolt and cartridge will be ejected
  • Check inside
  • Put a flag or lock the action open

    To make gun safer
  • Remove the Bolt Carrier Group (BCG)/Charging Handle (CH)
